David Ortiz will face trial in his country for alleged gender violence

a dominican court revoked this Wednesday the final file of a complaint for alleged gender violence filed by the Public Ministry against the ex-player David Ortiz, just one day after his proclamation to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

The interim judge of the Fifth Investigating Court of the National District, Franchesca Potentini, gave a period of 20 days for the Prosecutor’s Office of the Dominican capital to present an accusation against the former Major League Baseball star.

The complaint for alleged gender violence was initiated by the ex-partner of Ortiz Fary Almánzar Fernández, mother of a son of the player. The National District Prosecutor’s Office ordered the file of the complaint, after studying the file deposited by Almánzar’s lawyers.

It is the second time that a court has revoked the filing of the complaint against former player Ortiz; the first time it was ordered by the Second Chamber of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of the National District.

‘Big Papi’ joined his compatriots Juan Marichal, Pedro Martinez and Vladimir Guerrero in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, whose induction ceremony will be held in July.

Ortiz reached 77.9% of the votes of the American baseball writers, to exceed the 75% minimum required and he did it in his first year on the ballot.

The former Dominican designated hitter, an important figure in three World Series titles for the Boston Red Sox, concluded his 20-year Major League career with a .286 batting average, 541 homers and 1,768 RBIs.
