The Xàtiva Badminton Club athlete Mª José Mompó has resumed the national competition after the Christmas break, winning two medals in the Senior Master held last weekend in Vitoria. The woman from Setab thus began, in style, the national competitive season. Mompó won the gold medal in mixed doubles and silver in women’s doubles.
In the mixed doubles, the athlete from CB Xàtiva teamed up with Héctor Tobar and they became champions. After the group stage, they were level on points with the couple formed by David de la Cruz and Dina Abouzeid, and in the direct match between the two couples, Mª José and Héctor won 14-21, 21-13 and 21-15.
In the women’s doubles event, Mª José competed with her usual partner, Silvia Rueda, and managed to win a complicated group A, ensuring passage to the final draw. In the final against the couple formed by Jennifer Fernández and Esther Pereira, they fell by a tight 24-22 and 21-17, in a very even match. With this, Mª José and Silvia were runners-up and hung up the silver.
On the other hand, the Xàtiva Badminton Club also returned to the competition last Saturday, with the second day of the Jocs Escolares Regional Circuit for the cadet category, a day that was held in Xàtiva and in which 54 athletes participated. 12 competed for CB Xàtiva, due to the loss of another four. The U-15 and U-17 Setabenses achieved very good results, with an average of 54% victories in individual events and 67% in doubles.
