What would you like, please, Mr. Süle? The wonderful Mediterranean coast of Catalonia and a sporty rebuilding at his former favorite club FC Barcelona? Or rather the rough Premier League with many duels and an exciting title fight in the Chelsea jersey?

The 26-year-old defender, who leaves Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of this season, has interesting options – which is not surprising given his quality. Süle is a player “at an age and in a position that is not that common on the market,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, who would have liked to have kept his defender. But Süle is looking for a new adventure.

After Süle’s departure, only three established central defenders remain

For Bavaria this means: find a replacement! Because with the current squad alone, this loss will not be able to be compensated. Tanguy Nianzou (19) isn’t playing consistently enough, and Chris Richards (21/currently on loan to Hoffenheim) hasn’t been able to assert himself in Munich either.

That leaves exactly three established central defenders for the 2022/23 season: Dayot Upamecano (23), Lucas Hernández (25) and Benjamin Pavard (25), with the latter mostly playing at right back. A little bit for a club like Bayern that wants to triumph in three competitions.

Sports Director Hasan Salihamidzic and Technical Director Marco Neppe are therefore looking for reinforcements. The AZ checks four potential candidates.

Andreas Christensen (25, FC Chelsea)

Because Süle is hotly traded at Chelsea and likes the Premier League very much, there could be a domino effect – and an exchange. Because the Danish national player Christensen wants to leave the Blues, his contract is also expiring. He would be a bargain for Bayern and knows the Bundesliga well from his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach (2015 to 2017). That would fit perfectly.

Antonio Rüdiger (25, FC Chelsea)

The German international is also facing a change, he could not agree on a contract extension with Chelsea. Rüdiger is available on a free transfer, and Real Madrid are showing great interest alongside Bayern.

Due to his high salary demands, Rüdiger seems more drawn to Real.

The Swiss is an exciting candidate because he can play in central defense and as a midfielder.

As with his Gladbach colleague Matthias Ginter (28), the contract is expiring, but Zakaria has more supporters at Bayern than Ginter. A transfer also depends on whether Corentin Tolisso (27) leaves Munich after this season. No decision has been made about this yet.

Bayern was already on the Dutch defensive star in 2019, but at that time de Ligt switched from Ajax Amsterdam to Juventus Turin for 85 million euros. De Ligt was rarely able to convince there, which is why he is up for sale this summer. Juve calls for around 65 million as a price – an extremely large amount of money in Corona times. And too much for Bayern?

According to the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”, Bayern is one of the favorites for the de Ligt signing. But for this, transfer income would have to be generated first. A free transfer from Christensen and/or Zakaria to Munich is currently more likely.
