If Schalke should manage to get promoted again, then sports director Rouven Schröder (46) has borrowed the return to the Bundesliga.

► Ko Itakura (25/Manchester City)
The purchase option for the defense leader is 5.5 million euros – regardless of whether Schalke plays in the 1st or 2nd division. If they don’t get promoted, the clammy club can no longer afford the Japanese.
► Andreas Vindheim (26 / Sparta Prague)
A firm commitment of the winter transfer costs 1.3 million euros. If the Norwegian convinces permanently, Schröder would buy the right-back even if he stayed in the second division and make the next attempt at promotion with him.

► Thomas Ouwejan (25/AZ Alkmaar)
2 million euros is the fixed price for the highly efficient left-back (3 goals/7 assists), who – like Itakura – wants to play first class next season. If he can’t do that at Schalke, Schröder still plans to take the purchase option and then resell the coveted Dutchman at a profit.
► Rodrigo Zalazar (22/Eintracht Frankfurt)
A purchase obligation was agreed for the midfield Uru: one million euros for promotion and 650,000 euros for non-promotion. He then has a Schalke contract until 2026, from which Frankfurt can buy him back again from 2023 – for about twice the amount due this summer.

The purchase option for the striker for 500,000 euros is linked to a commitment clause that will take effect soon. With 5 starting eleven and 12 substitutions in the 2nd half (count half), he is currently at 11 games.
► Darko Churlinov (21 / VfB Stuttgart) and Yaroslav Mikhailov (18 / Zenit St. Petersburg)
There is no purchase option for either of them. A further commitment from Churlinov (e.g. in the event of a VfB relegation) would have to be renegotiated.
