Very happy to be at home and play with Dorados: Jorge Gutiérrez

The prodigal son returns to the land where he was born, the former NBA player, Jorge Gutiérrez, will play for Dorados Capital in the 2022 campaign in the State Basketball League (LBE).

The Chihuahuan agreed for this season declaring his satisfaction at signing with the champion squad that tonight will open at home against Vaqueros de Agua Prieta, at 8:00 p.m. at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gym.

“I feel very happy to be at home, close to my family and to be able to play basketball for the Dorados, I represented Chihuahua at the state and national levels and now being able to play again makes me very proud,” said the new element from the capital.

Likewise, he declared that the team “received him very well”, knowing most of the teammates, in addition to feeling pleasant with the Spanish helmsman Manolo Hussain.

“Right now it’s getting used to the Chihuahua team, Dorados is a serious organization, they bring a very good coach with high expectations,” he emphasized. Gutiérrez made his NBA debut with the Brooklyn Nets in 2014, becoming the fourth Mexican player with minutes in the best basketball in the world, in addition to the second from Chihuahua, after following in the footsteps of Eduardo Nájera.

The point guard played a couple of seasons with the Nets, one more with the Milwaukee Bucks, in addition to the Charlotte Hornets. He also played six playoff games, between 2014 and 2016 in the NBA.

His best numbers came in the 2013-14 season, seeing action in 15 games –two as a starter– averaging 4.1 units, 2.0 assists and 1.4 rebounds. In the NBA he participated in 47 games, finishing with 2.9 points, 1.5 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game. In turn, he played for European teams from Turkey, Italy, Spain, Germany and Greece.

“I have played in some parts of the world and I can contribute that now that I arrive, and training more I will contribute other things, but right now it is experience”, declared Jorge Gutiérrez. With palmares at the selection level, he also has a tour in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP) he played for Pioneros de Quintana Roo, Capitanes de Ciudad de México and Astros de Jalisco.

It was with the Guadalajara team where he led the Astros to the fight for the LNBP title in 2021, leaving Soles de Mexicali in the Zona final on the way, although he was left out of the championship series against Fuerza Regia due to contracting COVID.

In 22 games with the Astros, he scored 8.1 points, 3.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds. His best game was on October 16 against Fuerza Regia, scoring 21 points.
