León, Guanajuato.-Local basketball will have to wait to test itself again and converge in the same tournament, the second January Fiesta Cup was postponed as a result of the pandemic.
After almost two years of the pandemic, the revival of local basketball was taking place slowly, which is why the Copa Fiestas de Enero León 2022 basketball tournament was emerging as a stage to gather dozens of players around the ball, the hoop and the stave .
Given the increase in Covid-19 infections and the change to yellow in the epidemiological traffic light in Guanajuato, they led to the event being postponed, as reported in a statement.
“We inform you that due to the increase in Covid cases during the month of January and because the state of Guanajuato went down to a yellow traffic light, we have decided to postpone our 2nd Cup until a new date.
Surely this will allow public and private schools, as well as basketball clubs and academies that participate with us, to play in better conditions. Soon we will announce a new date for our cup”, reported the organizing committee through social networks.
The Copa Fiestas de Enero has not been able to resume since 2020 when the first edition was held, for the second edition the Arturo ‘Pitos’ Guerrero auditorium of the Enrique Fernández Martínez sports unit was expected to be the main venue.
For this burst sport fair, it was intended to bring together children’s, youth and student teams from León and the entity. The first edition added a little more than 40 quintets.
