Glendy and Yaquelin Teletor, the sisters who stand out in the Guatemalan march

The Guatemalan march It has a promising future and more and more young people are looking to excel at an international level. A clear example is Glendy and Yaquelin Teletor, From sisters that actually stand out in this sport discipline.

Based on effort, dedication and perseverance, the two marchers have achieved each of the objectives that have been set at their young age and aim to become the next referents in the country.

The beginnings of Glendy and Yaquelin Teletor in race walking

For both sisters, their passion for the sport began in badminton, but it was race walking that really made them fall in love. The first to become interested in this discipline of athletics was Glendy, who is originally from Cubulco, Baja Verapaz.

At age 10, Glendy decided to switch to walking motivated by the history of the medals they won Mirna Ortiz Y Erick Barrondo at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara. She was even the first to reach the National selection in 2014, in the category infant A.

For his part, Yaquelin, who was born in City of Guatemala, followed in the footsteps of her older sister and began training at the age of 7. Both have dedicated themselves fully to this sport, but have also learned to take their academic studies hand in hand.

In their beginnings, the Teletor sisters experienced difficult times, since after two years of practicing the sport, they were left without a coach. But on May 8, 2015, this changed with the arrival of Professor Mynor Ortiz, with which they have managed to reach their best sporting level.

Qualification for the U-20 World Championships in Athletics

Since then, the Guatemalans have won medals at the national and Central American levels, in children’s and youth categories. His reward for the work and training of recent years was reflected by achieving his classification in the last Under-20 World Athletics Championships, held in Nairobi, Kenya.

On the one hand, Glendy achieved the access mark in the National Championship March 2021, while Yaquelin got it months before at the I International Preparatory Championship, held at the end of 2020.

Due to the World Cup regulations, Guatemala only had the right to take a female representative in the race walk test. Glendy was chosen and saw action in the 10 kilometres, finishing in the Market Stall 14.

But Yaquelin will not be left with the desire to participate in a U-20 World Cup, since he recently sealed his qualification for the Championship that will take place in 2022 in Cali, Colombia.

With a view to the 2024 Paris Olympics

The Teletor sisters have already begun to acquire the necessary training to compete in the high performance sports. Both dream big and have a clear objective that they seek to achieve in the long term, the long-awaited classification for the next 2024 Paris Olympics.

For this, they must be the protagonist in each of the events of the Olympic Cycle that will be held in the next two years.
