CAN: Tunisia’s new contentious elimination…

Beaten by Burkina Faso (0-1) on Saturday, Tunisia was eliminated at the gates of the last four of the African Cup of Nations. Another painful exit from the road for the Eagles of Carthage, who were not spared by arbitration.

Tunisia was stopped at the gates of the last square of the CAN.

The tournaments follow one another and look alike for Tunisia. In search of a second title after 2004, the Carthage Eagles will not realize their dreams in 2022 following their defeat against Burkina Faso (0-1) on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations.

The same executioner as in 2017, at the same stage of the test, but this time with much more pronounced regrets, at least as important as those against Equatorial Guinea in 2015.

One hand on goal, Khazri cuts

If they were much more nervous than during their previous meeting against Nigeria (1-0), the Tunisians were clearly not helped by the refereeing of Joshua Bondo. It started with the goal scored by Dango Ouattara. Starting against the additional time limit, the Lorient player resisted the return of two defenders to adjust goalkeeper Bechir Ben Sad. The problem is that Hake touched the ball with his hand before finding the fault. A fairly clear fault on the slow motion which was not even checked by the official.

But the most contentious action took place a quarter of an hour from the end. Much more toned and quick, Soumala Ouattara managed to clear a hot ball into the box. Problem, the central defender of FUS Rabat took everything in his path: leather and Wahbi Khazri. In slow motion, the Saint-tienne striker, who took a long time to get up, escaped the worst since he had the chance not to have been tackled on his supporting leg. Despite the clear images on the VAR, the Botswana referee did not award a penalty.

A still premature end to the match

For compensate for this stormy decision which has caused a lot of ink to flow for a few hours, the 43-year-old man had much less scruples to send the Burkinab striker back to the locker room, author of a nudge in the face of Ali Maaloul, five minutes later. A direct expulsion which did not benefit Tunisia, too messy in the last 30 meters and unable to shake up a block of heels perfectly in place.

The Maghreb team was once again at a disadvantage in the dying seconds with a premature final whistle, twenty seconds before the end of four minutes of additional time, marked by numerous stoppages. resurrect the scandal of the stoppage of the match in the 85th then the 89th minute against Mali (0-1), in the first round. A succession of adverse events unwelcome for Tunisia, decidedly little spared by arbitration.
