Wout Weghorst has made his dream come true: After three and a half years in Wolfsburg, the top scorer is moving to the Premier League. However: Instead of playing for titles, Burnley FC is first and foremost about staying up in the league.

Exactly seven goals were missing, then Wout Weghorst could have shared the title of Bundesliga record scorer with VfL Wolfsburg together with Edin Dzeko. Nothing will come of it, however, the Dutchman is now standing with a remarkable 59 goals in 118 league games for Lower Saxony. He moves to Burnley FC in the Premier League for around 14.5 million euros.
The last details in the small town in northern England were clarified on Monday night, Weghorst strengthened the bottom of the table as a replacement for Chris Wood, who had moved to Newcastle United.
Weghorst’s next step is initially smaller
The striker chooses the emergency exit out of Wolfsburg, where he was recently identified more as a disruptive factor within the team and no longer as a beacon of hope and a driving force in the fight for relegation. Weghorst originally dreamed of a top English club, will continue to crave successes and titles, but his possibly last and long-planned career step on the island is initially smaller than desired.
His gap in Wolfsburg, where he was an absolute top transfer in the three and a half years since moving from Alkmaar to the Bundesliga, will be closed with two offensive players. On Sunday, VfL already announced the surprise transfer of Max Kruse, followed on Monday by Dane Jonas Wind, who comes from FC Copenhagen for twelve million euros. The footsteps that Weghorst is leaving behind are enormous, despite all the criticism in recent weeks, also due to the fact that he has not yet been vaccinated against the corona virus.
