Juan Martin Del Potro will return to the circuit after a two-and-a-half-year absence at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires next week. The Argentinian, aged 33, was invited by the organizers. The former world No. 3 hasn’t appeared in competition since the 2019 Queens tournament, where he re-injured his knee after suffering a broken patella in his right knee eight months earlier in the Shanghai Masters 1000.
He has since undergone four knee operations, including the last in 2021, which took him away from the circuit for a long time and dropped him to 757th place in the world. In recent weeks, “Delpo” had expressed on social networks his desire to return to play in Buenos Aires, where he had lined up only once in 2006. The Argentinian must also play the following week in the ATP 500 tournament of Rio (February 14-20).
