The new baseball field that was to be built at the Parc du Petit bonheur in Saint-Constant will instead be relocated to the outdoor base, the city council said. The latter filed a notice of motion to formalize the change of site during the January 18 meeting.
The natural surface field will therefore join the Baseball Complex, the construction of which was announced in August 2020. The regulations presented by the elected officials mention the discovery of a wetland located at the planned location in the Petit Bonheur park, which makes its realization impossible at this place. The City also clarified Reflection that it wishes to create a pole intended for the practice of baseball at the outdoor base.
“The natural terrain is completely separate from the Complex,” the Municipality told the Journal. It will be a complement to our offer of sports facilities.”
For its part, the Saint-Constant baseball complex, which is managed by a non-profit organization of the same name, will offer synthetic fields, including one covered with a dome. Its development is planned for this year, according to the presentation of the budget on 25 January.
Costs
The relocation of the natural land will not entail any change in the expected costs for its construction, informs the notice of motion. These are valued at $430,200, according to a $1.1 million loan by-law adopted by council in 2019, which also includes the optimization of the Monchamp and Jean-Olivier-Chèvrefils pumping stations, as well as the installation of a traffic light on rue Saint-Pierre.
