Felice Mazzù before Antwerp-Union: “Keeping the values that allowed us to be in the lead”

The Union of Felice Mazzù faces this Saturday (8:45 p.m.) Antwerp, his runner-up in the standings. A meeting that will put an end to the infernal sequence against the leaders of our championship (Genk, Bruges, Anderlecht and Antwerp).

With two days off, Monday and Tuesday, the Unionists were able to recover from their big burst of energy. “The players took advantage of deserved time off after the sequence which was carried out in a very positive way, explains Felice Mazzù, the Union coach who faces a team who played on Wednesday. I do not think that the Antwerp will be more tired than us because of their weekday game. They have a squad of thirty players so there won’t be any fatigue on their side.”

The meeting of this Saturday evening will be the real poster of the weekend between the first and the second of the Pro League. Union are currently seven points ahead of Antwerp who could drastically reduce the gap if they win. “With a view to qualifying for PO1, this match is as important as the previous ones without being more important than the others, advances Mazzù. There will still be matches to follow. On our side, we are doing everything to stay the same, keep the good atmosphere in the group and have fun. We want to keep the values that allowed us to be at the top of the rankings.”

The unionist coach advanced the many qualities of his next opponent. “The Antwerp management have injected the means to go far in Europe and win the title of champion. They have physical qualities, they have technicality and liveliness in their game. They also have a lot of experience with a guy like Radja Nainggolan or Michael Frey who is fighting for the title of top scorer.”

For this match, Felice Mazzù should be able to count on the return to the group of Kacper Kozlowski and Matthew Sorinola. Kaoru Mitoma, for his part, is not yet fully recovered.
