Mathias Bonny and Gilles Tripet crowned Swiss men’s doubles champions

Gilles Tripet (29) and Mathias Bonny (27) were crowned Swiss men’s doubles champions in Mutschellen, in the canton of Aargau. Respectively titled in 2013 and 2019 with Florian Schmid and in 2015 and 2018 with Oliver Schaller, the two friends of BC La Chaux-de-Fonds (BCC) won the gold medal for the first time together.

Carried in particular by the exploits of Sabrina Jaquet and Corinne Jörg, the club of the watchmaking Metropolis has since the 2004 edition each time left national games with at least one title in its bag.

The Pierrehumbert brothers not far from a surprise

To reach the final, Mathias Bonny and Gilles Tripet notably defeated Neuchâtel brothers Maxime (24) and Loris Pierrehumbert (26) in the quarter-finals, in a three-set thriller (21-15 21-23 21-13 ).

At the final stage, the two BCC players took the upper hand 21-11 15-21 21-15 over Joël König and Tobias Künzi, members of the Swiss team.

Reigning Swiss mixed doubles champion Mathias Bonny was unable to defend his chances in this category due to the injury package of his partner Céline Burkart.

Close to a singles podium

Competing in singles, Maxime Pierrehumbert reached the quarter-finals, while his big brother Loris was not far from signing a nice surprise in the round of 16. Opposed to Nicolas A. Müller, future winner of the tournament, the resident of BC Neuchâtel was beaten at the end of the suspense after having nevertheless pocketed the first set (9-21 21-18 21-19).

The young badiste of the BCC Lucie Amiguet (17 years old) did not celebrate her first podiums with the elites in Mutschellen. She was eliminated in the singles quarter-finals. In women’s doubles and mixed, the fine racket took the door during the eighth.
