Nike will terminate its contract with Mason Greenwood. The decision was taken after the star stumbled upon a sexual assault case.
It was reported The Athletic. A Nike spokesman claimed that the Manchester United striker was no longer cooperating with him after he was caught in a sexual assault case and death threats against his girlfriend, Harriet Robson.
“Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete,” a Nike spokesperson said in a statement.
Previously Nike only suspended its collaboration with Greenwood. Now, more decisive steps have been taken.
Greenwood stumbled upon a case of rape and assault on his girlfriend last week. Photos of battered Harriet Robson are circulating on social media. Not long after, Greenwood was immediately arrested and detained by the Greater Manchester Police.
After being investigated for two days, Greenwood’s case even increased. The English player is also said to have made death threats to his girlfriend.
Greenwood was later released after three days in police custody. He was released after paying the security deposit.
The case put Mason Greenwood’s career in jeopardy. Manchester United, his club, banned him from training and playing until his case was resolved.
Not only that, MU also no longer sells knick-knacks in official stores. In fact, fans are allowed to exchange Greenwood’s jersey for another player’s jersey.
Outside of Manchester United, several sponsors have also pulled out. DHL and Cadbury are also said to have suspended cooperation with Mason Greenwood.
