The farce surrounding the expulsion of tennis star Novak Djokovic does not leave the Serb’s family in peace. Now papa Srdjan rumbled.
The world number one had traveled to Australia unvaccinated at the beginning of January to take part in the Australian Open. However, the border officials did not consider the Serb’s medical exemption permit for entry to be sufficient. Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke finally revoked Djokovic’s visa, this was confirmed by a federal court. The 34-year-old had to leave Australia just hours before his first game.
Curler played after positive test
Apparently Papa Srdjan’s sting is still deep. At least that is what the Serbs commented on the Olympic Games. The 61-year-old targeted the Australian mixed team in curling.
But what happened? Australian curler Tahli Gill tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of Sunday’s mixed competition. So she – and her partner Dean Hewitt – were already planning the trip home. But then came the surprise: The Chinese health authorities let the Australian curler, who was already positive for Covid in January, out of the quarantine hotel. Another test showed fluctuating Ct values. Australia finally beat Switzerland 9:6.
“Shame on you”
For Djokovic-Papa Srdjan, however, it is incomprehensible, after all, it is an athlete from Down Under. “Australians, learn from China how athletes are respected and valued. Shame on you a thousand times,” the 61-year-old raged on Instagram. However, Immigration Minister Hawke justified the expulsion of the Serb with his anti-vaccination attitude, which means that Djokovic is a danger to the Australian population.
