There is a notable rise in talent level in Major League Soccer. But unfortunately for the fans, this is reflected in the loss of young players to top clubs abroad. Still, soccer experts believe this is good for the league. Transfer of players will bring more reputation, sponsorship deals, and more money to buy new and develop homegrown players. Moreover, the experience gained by youngsters abroad will directly impact the US national team. And with the game getting more and more popular, bookmakers offer various promotions to help you bet on soccer.
With the transfer deadline finished and a new season just around the corner, check out the most notable outgoing transfers in the MLS.
Ricardo Pepi – $18 million to Augsburg
Dallas FC had one of the brightest future stars in Ricardo Pepi. The 18-year-old made 31 MLS appearances and scored 13 goals, which was more than enough to receive an invitation from Bundesliga club Augsburg. The German team made a significant investment of $18 million to try and avoid relegation this season. For Pepi, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain invaluable experience and continue his development outside of MLS.
Daryl Dike – $9.5 million to WBA
Daryl Dike featured for Orlando City in two MLS seasons, registering 10 goals in 18 games in 2021. These respectable numbers earned him a transfer to West Bromwich Albion, a team that is currently sitting in the playoff spot for English Premier League. WBA hopes that Dike can help them push for promotion and is definitely a long-term signing.
Kevin Paredes – $7.35 million to Wolfsburg
After 41 games with DC United, Kevin Paredes decided to continue his career in German Bundesliga. He joined Wolfsburg, a team that is currently struggling to stay out of the relegation zone. The left-footed midfielder is considered a future star and is hopeful this experience will net him a call-up to the US national team.
Tajon Buchanan – $7 million to Club Brugge
Tajon Buchanan became one of the hottest prospects after his debut for the Canadian national team, where he showcased his speed, agility, and dribbling skills. The 22-year-old featured for New England Revolution over 50 times and netted on 8 occasions. This is not bad, considering he plays primarily as a winger or attacking midfielder. In addition, club Brugge plays in the UEFA Europa League, which will be a very good experience for young Buchanan. Aside from this deal, the Belgian transfer window was very calm.
George Bello – $2 million to Arminia Bielefeld
George Bello’s price tag may not be high, but he’s certainly one of the best MLS youngsters in recent years. The 20-year-old left-back already amassed 52 appearances for Atlanta United, scored three goals, and logged four assists. He earned a total of 6 caps for the US national team. The move to Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld raised some eyebrows, seeing how the club sits only 2 points above the relegation zone.
