Kamagate, the winning bet in France before taking off in the NBA?

Kamagate, the winning bet in France before taking off in the NBA?

The 21-year-old Paris Basketball pivot is already expected to have a bright future in the NBA. Sign of incredible talent. Kamagate has a precocious talent at his age.

Welcome Kindoki: “(Kamagate) never seen him do that at his age! »

“It’s first of all a pleasure to work on a daily basis with Ismaël. He is a real sponge in relation to the instructions given and the work ethic he imposes on himself on a daily basis. We try to give him as many technical references as possible.

This affects the management of contacts and certain finishes near the circle. No wonder he has such a high success rate. I hope this will continue. We also try to give him several strings to his bow, in particular to make him have a shot near the racket. With an outside shot, he should present an even more threatening danger to opposing defences.

We are also working a lot on his mobility. Today, he plays at position 5. Eventually, he will be at position 4. The next step is for him to be more comfortable with his dribbling, that he can play one against one to go to the circle, and behind to have a three-point shot too. We should notice all this at the end of the season. I haven’t seen many players doing what he does at 20 (21 since January 17, Editor’s note).

He is already one of the best defenders in the league. We could compare him to a Clint Capela (pivot of the Hawks, Editor’s note). I am happy with his progress. We work one hour more specifically on his game after each training session. Sessions of 200 shots scored are often carried out. He gives himself the means of his ambitions.

Paris Basketball Assistant Coach

David Kahn: “Kamagate, very soon an NBA player”

“Everyone at the club is very proud of Ishmael. He is a tireless worker. He also obviously relies on very good abilities. We must also give credit to Jean-Christophe Prat and Bienvenu Kindoki for all the work carried out with him for about two and a half years. I am convinced that he will be an NBA player very soon. We are already preparing for his departure.

I expect him to come in the next draft. He keeps progressing. In March, it will be even stronger. He will be ready in June for the draft. If he leaves, it will be a big loss. He has become one of our essential players. He is the anchor of our defence”.

President of Paris Basketball

David Ortega: “At the same age, Kamagate has more hands than a Rudy Gobert with more shots”

“I had it from the cadets last year. I then directed the detections. We had noticed it in Bondy. I saw him for three years. In the beginning, he started from afar. But he was instinctive and he had good hands. He also had a body to form.

We even wondered about his quality of foot at the start. After a battery of tests, we took it to Orléans on a long-term project. The first year, he played in the Region. We could not guess what he became today. I wouldn’t have immediately bet on him for draftable potential.

He exploded in the 2nd year. Kamagate has taken on another dimension. It could nevertheless happen to him to play a little easy while waiting in the racket to counter. I made him more and more responsible. It became my 4 position on the season. He changed the course of matches in defense. I remember a match where he hadn’t scored, but he had made about fifteen counterattacks.

He was upset. I replied: “You can’t imagine how much you weighed on the match! He gained more and more confidence. The 3rd year, we said to ourselves that we had something very strong. It’s not exactly the same profile, but, at the same age, he has more hands than a Rudy Gobert with more shooting”.

His former coach in U18 and Espoir

Jean-Christophe Prat “No limits to his talent”

“Ishmael has made a lot of progress in terms of his self-confidence thanks to his work. Everything he demonstrates today on the pitch, he was already doing in training at the end of last year. But when he was called for two days last June in the France team, to be a partner at the time of the Olympic selection, they finally kept him for almost two weeks. It was a key moment for him. He faced the best.

He then realized a number of things. That he also had arguments to make. It is progressing at the same speed as Paris Basketball. I see no limits to his talent. Even for the future. Apart from Ishmael himself. The day he realizes how talented he is offensive and defensive, it will really hatch. It will then reach the level it should have.

I don’t know its glass ceiling yet. It now aligns very consistent performance. “Isma” is a quiet person. It is also one of its great strengths. Everything slides on him. He’s just happy to play basketball. He likes that. It’s great for all the staff to have a boy with such a mentality, who has such a perspective on things.

Logically, he still has a lot of lines of work left, but he now shoots at four, five meters, he plays more in front of the circle. I expect him to shoot more three-pointers in the second half of the season. It must still gain in hardness. But if he continues like this, his future is bright”.

Paris Basketball coach

Jérémy Medjana “All the lights are green for the draft”

“Ishmael is a player who has evolved a lot in a very short time. Not so long ago, he played in Orleans in N3 and in the French cadet championship. He has come a long way since then, with two full seasons, notably in Pro B with a climb at the end of last year. Kamagate has therefore adapted quickly to the requirements of the Pro B and those of the Betclic Elite.

It is moving fast and well. Kamagate works hard for this. He is very well supported in Paris on individual development. Jean-Christophe Prat goes to the end of his commitments on the project by giving him a lot of responsibilities. It’s going very well. We are all very happy with this project which is progressing as planned.

And even faster than we imagined. Ismaël is from 2001. He still has two years to be drafted. If he continues like this, it seems obvious that he will be drafted quickly. We will definitely go to the draft this year. At time T, all the lights are green. There are still a few months left. At this rate, it’s on track for him to find himself in the best possible position at the time of the draft.
