Fifth win in a row!
Jürgen Klopp (54) and his Liverpool team secured second place in the Premier League with a 2-0 win against Leicester – despite a penalty puzzle for Mohamed Salah (29)!
▶ 75th minute: Salah stormed in front of Leicester keeper Schmeichel’s goal after being substituted on (60th), shooting and being cleared by Leicester’s Ndidi in the penalty area at the same time. Actually a clear penalty. The referee decides against it – probably because Salah has already come to an end.
Before that, Jota makes it 1-0! After a corner by Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk tries a powerful header. Leicester keeper Schmeichel can parry, but he is powerless against Jota’s sweep.
Liverpool too dominant for Leicester, Klopp’s “Reds” throughout the game with more possession and chances. Especially after standards, Liverpool is always dangerous.
Jota made the decision in the second half with the 2-0 (87th). A shot from almost 11 meters, Schmeichel still gets to it, but can no longer hold it.
By the way, Salah (arrived in the 60th minute) and Mané (not in the squad) are not in the starting XI because they reached the final with Egypt and Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations – but the “Reds” have Jota!
Liverpool (51 points) stay on their heels after beating Leicester at the top of the table Man City (60). Pep Guardiola’s team currently leads the Premier League with nine points, but Liverpool also have one game less.
