West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma has come under sharp criticism after a video of the violence he committed against his cat went viral on social media. His teammate, Michail Antonio defended.

Zouma has indeed apologized for his actions, but that doesn’t mean the problem is over. There is a domino effect that appears.

Zouma was fined two weeks’ wages by West Ham, then Adidas terminated his partnership with him. Not to mention the ridicule of supporters from various clubs. Two Zouma cats have now been brought in by the UK’s animal protection charity, RSPCA.

But all of that was not enough. When he was played against Watford, there were questions as to why he was still fielded for committing that disgraceful act.

Even an animal lover group in France asked Zouma to be suspended from the French national team. What happened to his colleague made Antonio concerned because he felt that everything was too much.

“I ask you guys. Was what he (Zouma) did worse than racism? I don’t condone what he did. I don’t agree with that at all,” Antonio said, quoted by Sky Sports.

“But there are people out there who are being punished for racism, and after that they can play again. They only got a ban for eight games or something, but now people are asking for him to be sacked and lose his job.”

“I want to ask people out there. Is what he did worse than people who are proven to be racist?” explained Antonio.

West Ham manager David Moyes has previously made it clear that he is keeping Zouma out of football for reasons, saying the 27-year-old is the best option he has at the back.
