Kruzberg started in the fifth of eight skates with Konstantin Ivliyev from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team, John Henry Krieger from Hungary and Quenten Ferkok from France.
Kruegberg completed the distance in 40,430 seconds, 0.168 seconds behind the pre-flight winner Ivlyev, and 0.023 seconds behind Krieger, who finished second.
To enter the quarterfinals, he had to finish in one of the first two places in his preliminary race or show one of the four best times among the other athletes.
Krieger showed the best time among the athletes who did not automatically make it to the quarterfinals, thus reaching the quarterfinals.
The skating of the quarterfinals of the competition, as well as the semifinals and the fight for medals will take place on February 13.
It has already been reported that Krūzbergs was not able to qualify for the decisive skates in the distances of 1500 and 1000 meters, taking the 26th and 20th place, respectively.
