“I didn’t really know my real father”, explained on Mojo. “I met him maybe three or four times as a kid, but he was, you know, a friend of the family. It would have been nice to have been in a room with him at some point before he died when I was 13. It would have been nice to share that I knew he was my dad, but it didn’t happen. “

“But the crazy thing,” he adds, “that happened is that about 10 years ago, the Chicago Cubs, some of their old folks got together and played baseball for about a week. I went there every two years and I was with these guys, I learned about the game more. Maybe some tricks I can teach my kids more. I enjoy coaching baseball. One of the former players, this tough trumpet player, who played at third base, let’s talk about Carmen Fanzone”.
“They also made it head of the Musicians Union of Los Angeles, an incredibly individual cool. I saw Carmen playing the horn in a small club in Arizona, and there was also this guy who played keyboards with him: he said he was my father’s best friend. Two years later, he brought me some photos of them rehearsing in small studios in the basement ”.
“Then, a couple of years later, he brought me five songs of my dad singing, on one record,” he revealed. “I carried that record around for two, three months in my suitcase, I wasn’t ready to listen to it. In the end I found the courage and, after a couple of bottles of wine, I reproduced it one evening in Argentina. He was good. An incredible circumstance, as if he had left a message for me ”.
With the help of the manufacturer Andrew Watt, Vedder assembled a collage around his father’s voice and included it on his new album as the final track (On My Way).
On the occasion of the release, at 8pm this evening, fans will be able to watch an exclusive interview between Vedder and Bruce Springsteen presented by Amazon Music and directed by Thom Zimny. In the special, filmed on the Springsteen farm in New Jersey, the two artists analyze the album. The interview will then be available on Eddie Vedder’s YouTube page.
