Wawrinka return on the dirt tour and be at Roland Garros

Lhe old tennis rockers have been gaining unusual prominence in recent months between comebacks and farewells. Last Tuesday, Juan Martín del Potro reappeared after almost three years in the dry dock in the Buenos Aires tournament for what seems to be his last match, although he has not yet officially confirmed it.

Known is the enormous effort that is making Andy Murray to revive old laurels, although the success of the British is in his return to the circuit much more than in his possible results. This same week he played the Rotterdam tournament, in which he lost in the second round against the Canadian Flix Auger-Aliassime.

In this scenario, the newspaper Le Parisien announces that Stan Wawrinka is almost ready to return to the tracks after almost a year off. The Swiss tennis player, 36 years old and winner of three Grand Slams – only Wimbledon resisted him -, reappear on the dirt tour with an eye on Roland Garros. The second big event of the year starts on May 22.

Wawrinka has not played a game since March 8, 2021, when he lost in the first round of Doha against the South African Lloyd Harris. The Swiss player ended up going through the operating room to two operations on his left foot and an operation on his Achilles heel that seriously jeopardized his career but finally it seems that he is ready to reappear.

‘Stan The Man’ wanders right now by the position 173 of the ATP but I’m sure he won’t have a problem getting a wild card in the tournaments leading up to Roland Garros, eager to see the only man, next to Andy Murray, who was able to question the undisputed dominance of the ‘Big Three’.

After all, Wawrinka still has fun on a tennis court and that’s why he comes back: “I’m often asked why I try to come back after an injury like that, but the answer is very simple: tennis is my passion. I love connecting with the public, I love the feeling of entering the court, of thinking about my game“.

“Many players forget those little things when they become professionals, the illusion that playing when we were children caused us. To this day, it still motivates me to go out there and have fun, because I know I’m going to have fun.“.
