The world of football remembers Alveiro the ‘Palomo’ Usuariaga, 18 years after his death

This Friday marks the 18th anniversary of the death of Alveiro el ‘Palomo’ Usuriaga, who left his mark with the Atlético Nacional lost to Envigado in a preseason friendly today | Colombian Soccer | Betplay League”>América de Cali shirt.

Usuriaga wore the scarlet jacket between 1990 and 1993, and won two league titles with the red cast and won the 1989 Copa Libertadores with Atlético Nacional.

Alveiro was murdered on February 11, 2004, when he was talking in a gambling business in eastern Cali and was shot several times, causing his death.

In July 2020, the documentary Paolomo made by Telepacifo was released in Buenos Aires and Córdoba, Argentina. It was acquired by DirecTV, which through its platforms made known to the world the story of one of the most emblematic players in Colombia.

Masterfully directed by the renowned Colombian filmmaker Carlos Moreno, it was an emotional work full of unpublished anecdotes, untold stories and full days of football by the attacker from Cali.

The investigation and field work were carried out in Argentine territory by three journalists from the publishing house El País, César Polanía, Jorge Enrique Rojas and Hugo Mario Cárdenas.
