Reading time: 2 minutes

We are days away from the start of the Super Bowl LVIwhere the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams teams will meet, for many this is one of the most important sporting events of each year, however, for many aviation lovers, the expectation that maneuvers and planes will fly over the SoFi stadium Stadium at the end of the last stanza of the American national anthem is necessary.

For this edition, several planes, which are truly a jewel, will take to the skies this coming Sunday, February 13. Although, it will only be a few moments -unfortunately-, here we make a list of the planes that you will see:

  • Mustang P-51D
  • A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog”
  • F-22 Raptor
  • F-35 Lightning II
  • F-16 Fighting Falcon  “Viper”

As you will see, there are five planes that combine history and military strength. For this year and within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force (USAF), the NFL has invited the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation (AFHFF), for these seconds of pure adrenaline.

According to FLYING magazine, P-51D Mustang Pilot Steve Hinton, world speed record holder and Reno Air Race champion, has said that all this low-passing is a complicated task because of the coordination involved. to have and appear in the state in a timely manner. Here we show you with this video, a little of the previous training.

In a brief interview, he said that an operation called “time on target” will be performed, which is precious time to appear at an exact location. This is developed through radio coordination, planning, prior training and coordination between all aircraft, to appear in the final note of the national anthem.

Currently, the pilots of the different planes have been practicing in the area, showing that each pilot has the ability to fly at low altitudes and at high speeds. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be in charge of supervising the aviators during training.

Meanwhile, the FAA has issued a Temporary Area Flight Restriction (TFR) for this Sunday, prohibiting all aircraft flight operations below 18,000 feet within a 10 nautical mile radius. The restricted area (Class B airspace) is located east of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The planes are expected to be flying about 800 feet above the ground and will fly in formation at an indicated 250 knots. To do this, the FAA has issued changes to restrictions on altitude, temporarily going from 1,000 above the highest obstacle and 2,000 on the side to just 700 feet.

According to Captain Steve Hinton who will fly the legendary P-51D Mustang, this will be the last time he will fly with the United States Air Force.

Enjoy this flight!
