No longer used by Jorge Sampaoli and pushed out by his leaders this winter, Alvaro Gonzalez (32 years old, 6 games in L1 this season) does not digest. In an interview with the Spanish daily AS, the defender of Olympique de Marseille expressed his anger.
“I don’t know what I’m a victim of, assures the Spaniard. What I know is that they extended me and from there problems of all kinds started. I had to lower my salary on August 31 so they can sign a player (Amine Harit) and even though it hurt me, I did it because I am the third captain of the team and I understood that I had to do these things for the club. I did everything so that everyone could be registered. From that moment they started to belittle me incomprehensibly when I gave everything for the club, I went through winds and tides. Later, they wanted to leave me in a bad way when I didn’t want to.”
In his interview, the Olympian explains that he did not want to leave in winter because the teams involved were not “ideal” sportingly. “I told them to wait until June, which is a longer market and in which more options will arise,” says the Spaniard, who is therefore living his last months in Marseille.
