Ligue 1 – Marseille fans on Zinedine Zidane: ‘Don’t go to Paris’
Marseille fans want to stop Zinedine Zidane from joining PSG. In his hometown he was greeted with appropriate requests.
Zinedine Zidane has recently been traded as the successor to PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has a difficult time with the Parisians. In his hometown of Marseille on Friday, supporters urged Zidane not to join Paris as a coach.
Zidane is originally from Marseille and while he has never played for the local club, fans there would rather not see him at PSG, their club’s arch-rivals. When the 49-year-old visited the opening of a health center in his hometown on Friday, he was welcomed by many fans.
Zidane has been traded as Pochettino’s successor at PSG for weeks
“Don’t go to Paris,” Marseille supporters kept shouting at him. As TV cameras showed, the former Real Madrid coach smiled away at these requests and did not comment on Friday.
Zidane has been linked with a post at Paris Saint-Germain for several weeks. The Frenchman is reportedly set to succeed Mauricio Pochettino.
A takeover before the end of the season is also said to be under discussion. As French media recently reported, Pochettino has two crucial games ahead of him: in the Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid. Should Paris leave, his end is sealed, they say.
