Hank Haney who coached Tiger Woods for 6 years between 2004 and 2010 believes that the Tiger was his least productive student on the course compared to what he showed at the practice.
Asked in the GOLF’s Subpar podcast Hosted by former Colt Knost player Hank Haney, who has worked with hundreds of golfers, said Tiger Woods was not getting to the level on the course he was in the warm-up.
“I have coached more than 200 pros on the circuit. The worst player I had when it came to going from practice to course was Tiger Woods.”Haney said.
“He won 45% of the tournaments he played when I was working with him, but on the driving range, watching him type you thought it was unthinkable that anyone could beat him.
“There’s always a slight dip in performance on the course, but he almost never missed a shot in practice, never and coming onto the course he was starting to miss a few shots quite inexplicably.”
The first thing he tells me concerns the three principles of my teaching with which he disagrees.
Woods was already at the top of his game when he started working with Haney in 2004 – and the manager got to see the work ethic of the best player of the modern era first hand.
“The first time I went to work with him, I drove to Orlando and he was waiting for me at the end of the driveway” , Haney recounted.“He had his clubs on a cart and he was ready to go. The first thing he tells me concerns the three principles of my teaching with which he disagrees. There I said to myself that it was going to be an incredible adventure.
