Race Director Mike Webb & CEO Dorna Carmelo Ezpeleta are satisfied with the condition of the Mandalika Circuit track after cleaning. They appreciate the efforts of the organizing committee.
The first day of the Mandalika MotoGP pre-season test, Friday (11/2/2022), yesterday was colored by a red flag in the morning. Dirty tracks are the cause.
The situation was complained by a number of riders. However, the track was later cleared and the riders were able to carry out the pre-season test smoothly to completion.
The organizers again cleaned the Mandalika Circuit track in the morning ahead of the second day of the test, Saturday (12/2/2022). The riders also completed the pre-season test smoothly.
Priandhi Satria also discussed the use of the red flag on Friday with Race Director Mike Webb.
“The use of the red flag last Friday was in order to close the race track so that maintenance crews can enter the track and carry out cleaning inside the track in accordance with the suggestions of several MotoGP racers and Dorna submitted to the Race Director (Mike Webb),” said Priandhi in an MGPA release. .
“The use of red flags is something that is natural in every motorsport activity, not something out of the ordinary.”
After the red flag was raised, the organizers immediately ordered a track cleaning vehicle that has a high-pressure water sprayer equipped with a rotating brush to enter the track and do the cleaning. After the cleaning process is complete, the track is reopened and the racers enter the track.
Mike Webb suggested that MGPA carry out routine cleaning every two weeks using Track Jet Trucks and Track Sweeping vehicles as well as routinely inserting cars/motorcycles into the track.
According to Mike, the presence of four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles on the track will make the racing line cleaner. That’s because when the vehicle passes, the vehicle’s aerodynamics will suck the debut from within the pores of the track.
Concerns that the dirty track conditions will hinder the schedule for the second day of the test have been answered. “Everything is going normally and we hope the tests can run as scheduled without any problems,” said the Managing Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) who is also the CEO of the Pertamina Grand Prix Mandalika MotoGP Race Committee, Priandhi Satria, Saturday (12/2).
Priandhi explained that it was true, on the first day of the test session, the race director had ordered Red Flag because of the dusty track conditions. However, everything can be resolved quickly, so the first day’s test session can be continued to completion with an additional 45 minutes.
Priandhi also emphasized that MGPA will perfect all circuit facilities and infrastructure ahead of the D-Day Big Event. “We have high safety standards with the assistance of several parties involved, such as the FIM, IMI, and Dorna.”
Simon Crafar, a former racer who is also a MotoGP analyst and reporter, said the tight competition was also supported by the fact that the track conditions had improved two hours before the end of the test. No more dust and dirt ejected from their motorbikes. So, good lap times can be created,” said Crafar.
