FIBA presented this Wednesday the twelve teams participating in the second edition of the Basket Africa League (BAL) as well as the calendar of this one. As a reminder, led by Walter Hodge, Michael Fakuede and Souleyman Diabaté, Egyptian club Zamalek SC won the first edition by beating US Monastir 76-63 in the final.
The start of the second season of the BAL is scheduled for March 5 at the Dakar Arena in Senegal. The competition will run for three months. Twelve clubs from twelve different countries will compete in the 38 matches of this second edition in the cities of Dakar (Senegal), Cairo (Egypt) and Kigali (Rwanda).
The twelve teams will be divided into two conferences: Nile Conference and Sahara Conference. Five teams that played in the BAL last season will be back, including champion Zamalek SC and runners-up US Monastir.
Each team will play a group stage and will be pitted once against all teams in their conference. The group phase of the Sahara conference opens the ball from March 5 to 15 in Dakar while the group phase of the Nile conference will be played between April 9 and 19 in Cairo. At the end of all these meetings, the four best teams from each conference will qualify for the BAL playoffs, which will simply be knockout matches until the final. The playoffs will take place from May 21 to 28 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
