With a 124:114 against the New Orleans Pelicans, the San Antonio Spurs celebrated their second win in 24 hours in the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Saturday. Jakob Pöltl contributed seven points, eleven rebounds, four blocks and two assists each as well as steals. The 26-year-old from Vienna was in action for 29:15 minutes. All-Star Dejounte Murray led the Texans with 31 points and 12 assists.
In a duel with a direct competitor for a play-in place, San Antonio was always in the lead from the 3-0 after eleven seconds and also won the second duel with New Orleans after the 112:97 in mid-December. His team scored “excellently” again, said Pöltl, who is visiting the Chicago Bulls with his teammates on Monday.
It was the eleventh loss in a row for the Brooklyn Nets. The New Yorkers lost 111-115 at the Miami Heat. The Eastern Conference number one, meanwhile, won for the fifth straight season, and the Denver Nuggets ended the Canadians’ eight-game winning streak with a 110-109 win over the Toronto Raptors. For NBA leader Phoenix Suns, the 132:105 win against the Orlando Magic was the fifth win in a row.
James’ most diligent scorer
The Golden State Warriors, who had recently lost twice, prevailed 117-115 against the Los Angeles Lakers, who in turn suffered their third loss in a row. Lakers superstar LeBron James scored his 44,157 point in all NBA games (regular season and playoffs) and now holds the points record. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had scored 44,149 points in his career. In the more prestigious regular season points category, former center Abdul-Jabbar still leads by 1,861 points.
