ATP > Maxime Cressy: “Djokovic is afraid to go to the net”

A great specialist in serve and volley, a style of play with which he believes he can become world number 1, Maxime Cressy gave an interview to the Palm Beach Post on the sidelines of the Delray Beach tournament.

Asked about the fact that the highest ranked players all, or almost all, practice a game based on exchanges from the baseline, the Franco‐American dropped a little punchline by estimating that these top playersincluding world number 1 Novak Djokovic, “were afraid to go to the net” before clarifying his thoughts.

“That’s why they’re stuck in these 30-40 shot rallies. That’s why they sit back and win all their games because they’re better than all these guys from the baseline. I believe it takes a new way of winning for people to start seeing tennis as more exciting and thrilling. The paradox is that Medvedev calls my game boring, when most people would like to see that style return”said Cressy referring to the spade sent by the Russian during their last meeting at the Australian Open.
