Davis Bertans has spoken openly about disputes and issues within the Washington Wizards roster. Accordingly, many players were dissatisfied with their minutes of play and would have liked a bigger role in the team.
“From my point of view, with the player rotations and multiple players who only get limited playing time, it’s just hard to build good team chemistry when everyone on the team is constantly fighting and saying, ‘I want more minutes’ or ‘I want a bigger role play,'” said Bertans.
This is also an explanation for the poor performance of the Wizards in recent weeks. “Once it goes downhill, it’s extremely difficult to get back on track,” says Bertans. The Wizards have been one of the most active teams in the trade market.
The Latvian is one of five players traded by the Wizards just before the deadline. Bertans went to Dallas with Spencer Dinwiddie, in exchange for Washington Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick.
“It’s February so it’s not worth talking about November and December but it’s the same team that started 10-3 and you kept hearing about how good the team chemistry is,” Wizards said -GM Tommy Sheppard opposite NBC Sports Washington.
Back in January, there were media reports of an altercation in the dressing room between Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope at halftime. After a strong start to the season, the US capital franchise has now slipped to 11th place in the Eastern Conference and is in the middle of the play-in race with a 26-30 record.
