BErlin (dpa / bb) – For the basketball players from Alba Berlin, a breathing space of three instead of two days without a game has paid off noticeably. “That was maturity, I thought it was mentally mature,” Alba Managing Director Marco Baldi praised the team after the 76:67 win in the Euroleague over the star ensemble from Zenit St. Petersburg. According to Baldi, the better regeneration thanks to the additional day without play “definitely helped to achieve success”.
While Alba had to play eleven games in 24 days in the weeks before, Alba appeared rested and relaxed on Thursday evening against a very experienced and self-confident opponent who, according to Baldi, otherwise somehow turned and won his games at the end and executed every movement with consideration. “And we did very, very well and very cleverly and with the right mix of intensity, but also biliousness and physique, and that ultimately brought us victory.”
In another three-day break, the Berliners can recharge their batteries before the current sixth in the Bundesliga table plays in the home game against Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, which is one rank lower, on Sunday (6 p.m. / Magentasport). “You can see that everything is extremely close together in the league,” said Baldi. According to the Senate decision on Tuesday, twice as many people as before can be present in the hall for the game with 4000 spectators.
Two days after the game we go to Frankfurt. After that, the Berliners can regenerate for four days before the final four in the cup in the Mercedes-Benz Arena with the semi-final on Saturday against Chemnitz is due next weekend.
