Schröder was absent from the Olympic Games in Tokyo last summer because the German Basketball Association, despite all efforts, was unable to take out insurance cover for the point guard. Schröder had speculated on a new NBA contract worth more than $100 million, which no insurance company wanted to secure. The point guard had supported the German team as a spectator at the qualifying tournament in Split.
Just last week, the 28-year-old switched from the Boston Celtics to the Houston Rockets in an exchange with his buddy Daniel Theis. His contract there expires in the summer.
Born in Braunschweig, he wants to come to Berlin to support the Basketball Löwen in the Top Four tournament in the cup, as his new manager Marcus Höfl announced. Schröder is the sole shareholder of the club.
