This Super Bowl halftime gesture by Eminem was banned by the NFL

This Sunday, February 13, viewers were treated to Super Bowl LVI, a game in which the Los Angeles Rams won against the Cincinnati Bengals 23 to 20.

The halftime was obviously highly anticipated, since it brought together on stage several artists from the rap and hip-hop scene: Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cents.

The whole gave right to a show for the moment exciting, unfortunately much too short, where nostalgia was in the spotlight with the following successes:

  • « The Next Episode » – Snoop Dogg
  • « California Love » – Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg
  • « In Da Club » – 50 Cent
  • « Family Affair » – Mary J. Blige
  • « No More Drama » – Mary J. Blige
  • « M.a.a.D City » – Kendrick Lamar
  • « Alright » – Kendrick Lamar
  • « Forgot About Dre » – Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem
  • « Lose Yourself » – Eminem
  • « Still D.R.E. » – Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem

During his segment, Eminem defied NFL rules by proposing a gesture that was fraught with meaning. Indeed, after having given everything on “Lose Yourself”, the rapper knelt down for several seconds, thus echoing a gesture made by two NFL players, Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid, in 2016. This was done in protest to racial inequities and police brutality in the United States.

We assume that the NFL must not have appreciated this movement which had been defended since 2016. On the other hand, we know that we can always count on Eminem for a relevant controversy!
