Johan Derksen calls Marcel Brands ‘totally unsuitable’ for the position of general manager, which he will hold at PSV from next season. The analyst of VI Today for Brands in his new position exactly the same problem as he signals to Ajax director Edwin van der Sar: “No figurehead out”, according to Derksen.
PSV surprisingly announced on Monday that Brands, who has only worked as a technical director, will take over the position of general manager from Toon Gerbrands from next season. “Marcel Brands is totally unsuitable for that position,” says Derksen. “Toon finds him suitable and at PSV they are quite charmed by Marcel Brands, but if someone cannot communicate outwardly, then it is Marcel Brands. You will never get in touch with that. As a technical director you can do things in a back room. Then you never actually have to go out, then you let the press secretary bring the news. But Marcel Brands is not a figurehead, because he never has anything to say, and when he says something, it sounds a bit unbelievable.”
Earlier in the talk show, Van der Sar’s vacillating interview was reported ESPN shown. The Ajax director made a confused impression in conversation with Hans Kraay junior about the Marc Overmars affair, Derksen also thinks. “Isn’t this terrible?” said the former left back after watching the conversation. “He hasn’t grown anything in ten years. It’s still that ex-keeper. That boy can’t run a company with 550 people, can he? Also listed. This boy is insecure, he doesn’t feel good in this job. That hides he is usually behind a kind of cramped arrogance. Now he is stumbling there. You can’t put forward such a figurehead as such a large company, can you?”
Derksen spoke to Gerbrands on Monday and knows why the director is stopping at PSV. Toon said when he started: ‘I’ll sign a contract, and if another club comes along that offers a lot more, I never will. agree with that.’ He now had a three-year contract, but he does not need to be paid for it, because he thinks it is very important for the club PSV to seize the chance of getting Marcel Brands. He added: “Maybe some extra football know-how is needed also desirable within the club.’ That man is almost 65 and has worked hard for twenty years, twelve years at AZ and eight years at PSV. He says: ‘I think it was actually nice.'”
