This Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders (6-6) hosted the Washington Football Team (6-6) and suffered another setback. The game was decided in the closing minutes, with the visitors coming out 17-15 winners in week 13 of the NFL. The game had many errors and showed the inconsistencies of both teams.
Taylor Heinicke had a good game, completing 23/30 passes, 196 yards, 2 TDs and INT. Derek Carr finished the night with 28/38 for 249 yards.
The game
The match started with a great offensive drive from the visitors, who capitalized on a 7-yard pass from Heinicke for Logan Thomas to receive with just one hand and score the TD. Just before halftime, the Raiders finally got a good drive, but they were limited to Daniel Carlson’s 52-yard field goal.
After the break, the game improved a lot. With yet another shot by Carlson, the home team put the difference to just one point. The next drive brought again good plays from Washington, who would have left the field without scoring if it weren’t for a questionable mark of violence to the passer committed by Maxx Crosby. Heinicke took advantage and found Antonio Gibson to catch a short 4-yard pass and widen: 14-6.
The answer came quickly: Carr advanced across the field to the edge of the end zone, delivering the handoff for Josh Jacobs to gain a yard and cash. In the two-point conversion attempt, Carr missed the pass in the end zone. In an attempt to extend the advantage, Heinicke ended up suffering an impact at the time of the pass, being intercepted by Nate Hobbs.
The Raiders took the opportunity to advance on the field and kick another field goal, turning the score to 15-14. On the visitors’ last drive, Heinicke threw a terrible pass, but rookie safety Trevon Moehrig dropped the victory. With that, Brian Johnson hit the 48-yard kick to take the advantage again.
With less than a minute on the clock, Carr tried to scout the field on a bomb for Zay Jones, who failed to get the reception. In the hail mary attempt, the ball didn’t even reach the end zone, ending the game and Vegas’ hopes.
