ATP > Wawrinka: “Some take tennis too much as a job, what motivates me is telling me that I’m going to have fun”

Absent from the circuit for nearly a year due to a foot injury, Stanislas Wawrinka should soon make his comeback. In remarks granted to the Parisian, the Swiss confirmed his participation in Roland-Garros 2022 (May 22 to June 5). He gave the key to his motivation to work so hard at almost 37, while slipping a small tackle on some of his peers.

« People often ask me why I try to come back from injury and continue, but it’s because tennis is a passion, I love the public. Above all, when I enter a field, I always have in mind that it’s a game. The basis of tennis is that you tell a child ‘Go play’! There are many who forget it when they turn professional : they take tennis too much as a job. Me, what motivates me and what still pushes me is to tell myself I’m going to play, that I’m going to have fun, that I’m going to have fun! »
