The Argentine basketball team has a preliminary list of 24 players for the qualifying window that it will hold at the end of the month against Venezuela and Panama, in Buenos Aires, ahead of qualifying for the Indonesia Philippines Japan 2023 World Cup.
The coach from Bahia, Néstor “Che” García, provided a list that includes, among others, point guard Luca Vildoza (without a club, after his separation from the New York Knicks), who is recovering from an injury; the shooting guard from Santa Fe Carlos Delfino (Olympic champion in Athens 2004) and the intern Marcos Delía (today in Italian basketball).
“The FIBA mother entity requests by protocol a list of 24. Then, according to the criteria and the need of the coach, a list of between 14-15 players will be determined who will be part of this second window”, explained Andrés Pelussi, sports director of the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CAB).
“The flexibility that the central organization gives us is that, knowing that the final 14-15 will be defined in the coming days,” he added.
The roster includes the following players: Luca Vildoza (base, free); Juan Ignacio Brussino (point guard, Quimsa); Pedro Barral (base, Works); Nicolás Aguirre (base, Regatas Corrientes); Franco Baralle (base, Quimsa) and Leandro Vildoza (base, Boca); Carlos Delfino (shooting guard, Libertas Pesaro, Italy); Luciano González (escort, Institute); Leonel Schattmann (escort, Boca); Martín Neck (escort, Institute); Matías Solanas (shooting guard, San Martín de Corrientes), Marcos Mata (forward, Aguada, Uruguay); Nicolás Brussino (forward, Gran Canaria, Spain); Martín Fernández (forward, Oberá); Facundo Piñero (forward, Regatas Corrientes), Juan Francisco Fernández (pivot wing, Fuenlabrada, Spain); Nicolás Romano (pivot wing, Institute); Federico Aguerre (pivot wing, Boca); Agustín Barreiro (pivot wing, Gimnasia de Comodoro); Marcos Delía (pivot, Pallacanestro Trieste, Italy); Lautaro Berra (pivot, Works); Kevin Hernández (pivot, Boca); Agustín Cáffaro (pivot, Regatas Corrientes) and Tayavek Gallizzi (pivot, Regatas Corrientes).
Argentina, which is one of the leaders of group A of the continental classification, will face Venezuela on Friday 25 at 9:10 p.m., directed by Fernando Duró.
The next day, the albiceleste team will face Panama (21.10), for the fourth match of the tie. Both matches will take place at the Obras stadium.
