The Ibizan badminton quarry continues to flourish beyond our borders, after the enormous results achieved by the Pitiusan players displaced to the Spanish Openm in Benalmádena (Málaga) for the sub-15 and sub-17 categories.
The weekend began for those selected by the Spanish Badminton Federation in the international event. Carmen Jiménez, Macarena Izquierdo, Victoria Gutiérrez, Ahinoa Cabrera, Yulien Gil and Joan Guasch were forming part of the national team. In addition, other players from the island with Sofía Garcia and Yaidel Gil attended the sporting event as a club.
Among the cadets and youth, the harvest of medals abounded, with one gold, two silvers and two bronzes. To highlight the stellar performance of Yaidel Gil after hanging a gold medal in men’s doubles and two silver medals, one in singles and another in mixed doubles together with Sofía García. This Ibizan duo won four of the five medals in total after Sofía added a bronze in the individual event.
In the sub-17 category, Macarena Izquierdo and Carmen Jiménez completed the five Ibizan medals with a third place in the women’s doubles. Both players attended the competition as part of the Spanish badminton team.
