The first weeks of 2022 have obviously been fruitful for the PGA Tour and DP World Tour rival league project, an announcement should come the same week as that of the American Tour’s flagship tournament.
The date was certainly not chosen by chance.
It is indeed rumored that the officials of the Super Golf League“>Saudi Golf League, Super Golf League, Premier Golf League, call it what you like, will make an announcement the week of The Players, the highest-grossing tournament of the PGA regular season. Tower !
Scheduled for March 10 to 13, the tournament, which takes place on the course of the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, where the headquarters of the American circuit is located, is now endowed with a record sum of 20 million dollars!
Ready for kick off
But the spotlight may also be on the main protagonists of the rival league project, according to journalist Alan Shipnuk, who explains that a senior players’ agent told him that “SGL wanted to start when it had 20 players and had just reached that number.”
A very prominent Tour agent tells me the Saudi plan has always been to announce once they have signed 20 players…and they just got to 20. A formal kick-off is now expected the week of the Players, the PGA Tour’s flagship event. I respect the bitchiness.

Very “interested” players
The names of the players actually involved in this dissident project are not known but it is common knowledge that Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson Where Bryson DeChambeau have been approached and that none of them have taken a clear position against this new circuit despite the threat of being permanently excluded from the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.
The latest to express interest in the Saudi Golf League is the 41-year-old Australian Adam Scott.
An official calendar, with 9 tournaments on American soil, 1 in Canada and 4 in Asia, could also be unveiled during this announcement.
