Barcelona announces basketball team won’t go to Russia

Spain’s Barcelona Club announced that they will not go to the away game against Russia’s Zenit team in the THY Europa League on Friday, February 25, due to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

In a written statement, Barcelona announced that the basketball team will not travel to Saint Petersburg due to the news about the developments between Russia and Ukraine.

In the THY Europa League, Barcelona has a match against Zenit on 25 February and CSKA Moscow on 27 February.

Turkish basketball player Sertaç Şanlı also plays in Barcelona.

MATCHES OF RUSSIAN TEAMS POSTPONED

THY Europa League postponed the basketball games that Russian teams will play in and out of the country this week due to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

Coinciding with the 27th week of the THY Europa League, the following matches have been suspended:

Bayern Munich – CSKA Moscow

Battle of Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz – UNICS Kazan

Zenit St Petersburg – Barcelona

The teams competing in the Basketball THY Europa League will hold an extraordinary meeting tomorrow due to the developments between Ukraine and Russia.
