RiderTua.com – MotoGP Boss Is Hoping, Marc Marquez Can't Get Enough for the 2022 Season”>Fabio Quartararo can’t wait to beat Marc Marquez after 2 years of not having a direct fight with him.. Quartararo has to wait another week to start defending the MotoGP title he won last year. The Frenchman took advantage of the day to rest at home and recharge before boarding his flight to Qatar, the first race of the season that won’t be easy for the Nice driver. Disappointment after test results at Sepang and Mandalika due to engine The Yamaha M1 is still at the same top speed as a few months ago. Marc was the real reigning champion for 4 times (2016-2019) in MotoGP before his injury, “Fighting with Marc is different from other riders. You see a man who has won six MotoGP championships and beating him is something else… I can’t wait to fight him again this year,” he said.
The Monster Energy Yamaha rider started the season with much discontent throughout this short but intense pre-season, five days of official testing divided between Malaysia and Indonesia, harboring more doubts than he would have liked, albeit in hopes of proving that, in terms of speed, he and his Yamaha are still among the best.
“I will give my best… that’s the most important thing.. Basically, we need the same as last year, more speed. We haven’t found anything yet. We’re working on some aerodynamic stuff and such, but top speed is something we need,” said Quartararo after verifying that, one more year. In fact Yamaha is still at the bottom of the top speed rankings.
Despite the fact that his bike hasn’t progressed as much as he hoped, the 22-year-old insists he doesn’t feel any pressure at the start of the season despite being the reigning MotoGP champion… “I think the pressure is more to see if I can achieve this dream. But when I’ve achieved it, now the motivation is even greater to do it again. I’m going to do like last year: I start this year as if I’ve never won and I want to win it. No added pressure to say ‘I have to win again yes or yes’”.
Quartararo is pleased to see that Marc Marquez is gradually recovering and is at his best, and after two years of not seeing each other on the track, he is confident that 2022 will be a year full of battles with Marc to see who will win the world title.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone, but the pleasure of fighting with Marc is different from other riders. When you fight him it’s something else, you see more than a rider, you see a man who has won six MotoGP titles and beat him is something else, you have to be honest. Marc has been a reference for the last 10 years, I think it’s something special to fight with Marc. Even though I’ve lost to him twice in Misano and Thailand, this is where I learned the most. When you have ‘Marc +0’ on the board for more than 20 laps, as a racer you can withstand more pressure. I can’t wait to fight him again this year.”
