Barça decides not to travel this Thursday to Saint Petersburg

Barça basketball has announced the decision not to travel to Saint Petersburg this Thursday, to face Zenit in the Euroleague tomorrow, Friday, due to the information that has emerged in the last few hours about the war in Ukraine.

As reported by the Catalan club, “several meetings are planned this afternoon with the parties involved and a decision will be made in the coming hours.”

After an emergency meeting held this morning, the Euroleague informed the Barça team that they should travel to Russia, where tomorrow, Friday, in Saint Petersburg, and on Sunday, in Moscow, they will face Zenit and CSKA, respectively.

The highest European competition issued this Thursday that it will continue with “the scheduled competition schedule”, as long as the integrity of the participating teams is not endangered or that “government decisions are made that prevent the holding of a match under normal circumstances”.

As previously reported by the Barça club, the organization of the Euroleague gave them guarantees to “be able to enter and leave” the country, despite the war in Ukraine.

Finally, the Catalan entity chooses not to travel to Saint Petersburg while waiting to make a decision in the next few hours.
