Bottom of the table again unlucky – In the 90th minute Aue was still leading 3:1

Et are now ten games without a win, and if FC Erzgebirge Aue isn’t enough to score three points even with a two-goal lead in the final minute, the question arises as to how the much-needed successes can still be achieved.

Even under the new coach Pavel Dotchev, the Saxons missed the redeeming victory in the relegation battle and gave up a 3-1 lead just before the final whistle. At SC Paderborn, FCE initially came back from a deficit in a turbulent second half, but then gambled away the victory they thought was certain within a few seconds. A crazy game ended 3:3 (0:1) and gave the violets, who were threatened with relegation, a severe setback.

The bottom of the table had already experienced a drama two weeks ago in the 2: 3 against Kiel. Sören Gonther scored an own goal and the decisive goal came in the final minute.

“It was bad luck today too. That’s all. Not only did we score three goals today, but the performance was also right,” Dotchev recognized: “Three goals conceded from set pieces broke our necks. That was a very good team performance from us. Everything was fine. But we only stand here with one point. That is very, very bitter.”

In front of 3319 spectators, Dimitrij Nazarov scored two penalties (63rd/70th minute) and Ben Zolinski (65th) for guests who played courageously and who are no longer bottom of the table, at least for the time being. Paderborn, who had been put in the lead by Dennis Srbeny (26′), performed poorly for long stretches, but showed morale and saved at least a draw thanks to two late goals from Kemal Ademi (89′) and Marcel Correia (90′).

The guests, who had changed four positions and who had also appointed sports director Dotchev as head coach in a dual role during the week, started powerfully and dominated the first half. However, they missed too many chances to score, twice the crossbar prevented a goal. Paderborn were all the more effective, taking their first real chance to lead. Srbeny headed in from five meters, otherwise the hosts posed little danger.

After falling behind, Aue remained the better team and courageously played forward after the break. Paderborn’s coach Lukas Kwasniok brought in two new players at the break – but the course of the game was turned upside down within a minute and a half. Nazarov with a penalty kick and Zolinski turned the game around, with another penalty kick five minutes later Nazarov made the supposed decision. But the Paderborn hosts fought back and turned the mad game around again with goals from substitute Ademi and Correia.

“We have to behave cleanly, show morality. And that’s what we did today. We have to build on this performance,” recommends Dotchev, who only has ten games left to stay up in the league: “Table and results sound like lottery numbers to me at the moment. We need a win now. That’s what counts.”

Hanover draws level with Kiel

Hannover 96, on the other hand, is still on the upswing. Lower Saxony won 2-0 (0-0) against Holstein Kiel and drew level with the storks on points. Sebastian Kerk (65th minute) and Niklas Hult (72nd) scored in front of 9,200 spectators for coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team, who thus managed a successful dress rehearsal for the quarter-finals in the DFB Cup. RB Leipzig will be visiting the state capital on Wednesday.

In an even game, both teams had chances to take the lead before the break. 96 missed a triple chance in the 35th minute through Sebastian Stolze, Kerk and Maximilian Beier. Benedikt Pichler could have scored for the guests (45th).

After the change of sides it was the Hanoverians who took advantage of their chances. Kerk scored through Linton Maina and Hult after a nice combination. A little later, Hult made everything clear by extending a shot from Mark Diemers with a heel into the goal.
