The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) published a statement on its website on Friday regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine. The meetings scheduled for this weekend in the Italian divisions will start five minutes late. A symbolic action to protest against the Russian invasion on Ukrainian territory.
“The universal values of sport force us to reflect. We don’t want to close our eyes to the situation. Like Italian public opinion, we want to send a clear message: Italian football is sensitive and very concerned about what is happening in these hours, sport does not play politics but denounces loud and clear.said the president of the federation Gabriele Gravina in the press release.
With this symbolic decision, the Italian Federation wants to unite professional and amateur football around a message of peace, in order to raise awareness among supporters of respect for human life and the need to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
