A Rising Judo Star: Maïween’s Journey
Ten-year-old Maïween is making waves in the judo world. Her passion for the sport ignited at the tender age of four in Saint-orens, where she first stepped onto the mat.Under the guidance of her initial instructor, Antoine Evenisse, at the Caraman club in Fourquevaux, Maïween’s talent quickly became apparent.
Her competitive journey commenced in the Benjamine category, with her first official competition taking place in December. She made an notable debut, securing a commendable fifth-place finish at the Critérium Benjamin.
January saw Maïween participate in her second Critérium Benjamin, where she faced stiff competition and unfortunately did not place.Undeterred, she bounced back with a strong performance at the regional tournament in Réalmont, coached by Dorine.Her determination and skill earned her a well-deserved third-place finish.
With the third Critérium Benjamin scheduled for March 19th, Maïween is setting her sights on the top spot. She is eager to represent her club with pride and claim her first gold medal.
Maïween’s dedication and natural ability have not gone unnoticed. Supported by her coach Dorine and the entire club staff, this young judoka is a shining example of perseverance and talent. Her journey is just beginning, and the future holds exciting possibilities for this promising athlete.

Maïween’s story is inspiring! This 10-year-old judoka is already making a name for herself, and her dedication reminds me of my own beginnings. That’s why I’m thrilled to have Olympic judo champion, David Douillet, joining us today to discuss Maïween’s journey and the future of this astonishing sport.

David Douillet: Thank you for having me.It’s always a pleasure to talk about judo, especially when it involves young talents like Maïween.
Moderator: Absolutely! Maïween started judo at just four years old. How crucial is early exposure to judo, and what are some key qualities you look for in young athletes like her?
David Douillet: Starting young is incredibly beneficial. Judo instills discipline, respect, and physical coordination from a very young age. In Maïween’s case, it’s clear she has a natural talent and a fierce determination. Those are two essential qualities for any judoka, regardless of their age.
Moderator: She’s had some impressive early results, including a third-place finish at a regional tournament. What advice would you give someone like Maïween as she sets her sights on the top spot in her upcoming competition?
David Douillet: I’d tell her to focus on her strengths, trust her training, and most importantly, enjoy the process. Winning is great, but judo is about so much more than medals. It’s about personal growth, facing challenges, and learning valuable life lessons.

David Douillet:
It’s absolutely vital. Having dedicated coaches who nurture talent and provide guidance is invaluable. They provide technical expertise, but they also offer emotional support which is equally important, especially during those challenging times.
Moderator: We’ve seen a resurgence of interest in judo recently. What do you think is driving this renewed passion for the sport?
David Douillet: Judo is a sport accessible to everyone, regardless of size or athletic ability. It promotes self-defense skills,physical fitness,and mental resilience – qualities that resonate with people in today’s world.
Moderator: David, what message would you give to young judoka like Maïween who dream of reaching the Olympic stage?
David Douillet: Believe in yourself, work hard, never give up on your dreams, and remember to have fun along the way. the journey is just as important as the destination.
