Four minutes after being substituted on, Sané redeemed Bayern

FC Bayern defeated bravely fighting Frankfurters. Only the substitution of Leroy Sané puts Munich on the road to victory. The midfielder needs just four minutes and three touches of the ball to decide the game.

Joker Leroy Sané gave FC Bayern Munich three important points on the way to the championship title. The national player scored in the 71st minute to win the record champions 1-0 (0-0) at Eintracht Frankfurt. Thanks to the well-deserved success in front of 25,000 spectators, Munich extended their lead at the top of the table over Borussia Dortmund to nine points, at least for one night. The pursuer has to follow suit at FC Augsburg on Sunday.

Bayern, who, like Eintracht, had changed four positions, started powerfully and had their first chances early on, which Benjamin Pavard and Jamal Musiala, who had recovered from corona disease, missed. However, the home side had the greatest opportunity in the early stages. After fine preliminary work by Jesper Lindström, Filip Kostic flicked the ball past Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, but also just inches wide of the far post.

Frankfurt relies on the counterattack

Overall, however, Munich determined the fast-paced game. Kingsley Coman, who returned after a calf injury, forced Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp to make a strong save with a powerful long-range shot after 24 minutes. Ten minutes later, a Lewandowski header just missed the target.

Eintracht relied primarily on counterattacks and always remained dangerous with their occasional advances. But there were really big chances on the other side. For example, when Trapp let a long-range shot from Joshua Kimmich bounce, but ironed out his mistake against the pursuing Coman himself (39th). Trapp paid for his rescue action against the Frenchman with a bloody nose, but after a short break in treatment, the 31-year-old was able to continue.

Bayern takes the lead confidently over time

After the change, nothing changed in the feature film. Bayern pressed on the lead, Eintracht fought back as best they could. First Evan Ndicka saved in dire need with his head on the line in front of Lewandowski, who was ready to score (53′), then the Munich top scorer failed freely on the brilliantly reacting Trapp (60′).

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann reacted to his team’s persistent lack of goals and brought in another offensive power in Sané in the middle of the second half. That should prove to be a stroke of luck. Just four minutes after being substituted on, the national player scored the deserved lead, which Bayern then routinely brought over time.
