The race in Russia was scheduled for September 25. It is not yet known whether there will be a replacement grand prix, as a result of which the Formula 1 season consists of 22 races for the time being.
Decision
Several Formula 1 drivers already spoke out on Thursday about the situation in Ukraine. “I don’t think we should race there,” said four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. “That would be wrong. We will probably talk about it as the drivers’ union GPDA, but I have already made my decision. I am not going anyway.”
Max Verstappen was also clear. “When a country is at war, it is not right to start racing. It is not justified when you see what is going on now. But of course it is not about my opinion. It is up to the Formula 1 leadership and the teams to decide what we do.”
Earlier, the European football association UEFA already decided to move the final of the Champions League from Saint Petersburg to Paris.
