Sabrina Jaquet (BWF 46) lost 21-10 21-14 to France’s Xuefei Qi (BWF 41) in her second preliminary round match at the Tokyo Olympics.
Beaten 21-7 21-13 by the world No.1 Tai Tzu-Ying two days earlier, Sabrina Jaquet resisted until 7-7 in the 1st set, before conceding 10 points in a row. The scenario for the 2nd round was almost identical, with La Chaux-de-Fonnière leading 6-5 before losing 7 of the following 9 points.
Sabrina Jaquet (34), who above all hoped to have fun for the last competition of her career, has therefore still not won a single set for her 3rd Olympics. Her task also promises to be difficult for her third game in Tokyo: she will face the Vietnamese Thuy Linh Nguyen (BWF 49), who had dominated Xuefei Qi 21-11 21-11 on Saturday.
